![]() Young people in their late teens and early 20s are already the age group most predisposed to feelings of nostalgia, Batcho explains, because it’s the time in our lives when the trappings of childhood are being left behind for good. “We really do yearn to, if nothing else, be able to visit that past.” “Life as we knew it a month ago might never return in the same form,” she says. Major life changes, even positive ones - career switch-ups, marriage, moving - always coincide with feelings of wistfulness, a return to a time when things felt simpler and less scary. Now, when a pandemic orders us to stand still at the exact same time, the only way through is back.įor Krystine Batcho, a professor of psychology who studies nostalgia at Le Moyne College, none of this is a surprise. In 2018, teens made memes about being nostalgic for 2015, in part because anything before President Trump felt like some long-forgotten past. In 2017, millennials flocked to emo-themed concerts to relive the melancholy soundtracks of their youth. ![]() Like junk food, video games, and at-home hair dye, nostalgia is a popular pastime even in normal circumstances, but particularly so in an era where the present feels inescapable. “There was no news about it, no piece of art that was going viral.” When Kerans took a deep dive into what else was trending, she noticed a pattern: Everyone who remembers the internet in the early 2010s was rediscovering their fantasy favorites, like Twilight and Divergent. She noticed something strange was going on when Megamind, an animated movie from 2010, was the most popular film on the platform the week of March 16. “We’re seeing posts literally float to the surface from 10 years ago,” says Cortney Kerans, the head of communications at Tumblr. “If you were on Tumblr in 2013-2014 you should qualify for a senior discount,” reads one self-deprecating video from the genre, as though the era were several generations ago and not less than a decade. But wouldn’t it be fun to pretend it was? This is, statistically, probably not what you were doing in 2013. Bing! Your friend just texted you a hilarious Harlem Shake Vine. There are always trade-offs between performance, aesthetics, and height restrictions, but just remember that the length of the antenna will have a direct affect on the range of your CB.įiberglass vehicles must use a “no-ground-plane” antenna. The longer the antenna, the better the range. There are only 3 important considerations when choosing a CB antenna: The easiest way to maximize your range is to use the longest antenna possible, and make sure that the SWR is properly adjusted. Unfortunately, these optimum conditions rarely exist and the range of your unit will typically be less depending on the conditions under which you are operating. If we were to eliminate all negative environmental factors, a properly set up base station could communicate between 10 to 15 miles, a mobile unit 5 to 7 miles, and a hand held unit approximately 2 miles with the only variable being the type of antenna used. Certain atmospheric conditions (such as sunspot activity) can also affect the range for CBs. ![]() Tall buildings, trees, hills, and interference from other CB radios all limit the effective range of a CB radio. Since eventually this cloudy aquarium water situation will likely resolve itself on its own once the healthy bacteria colonies are established, you only have a few key things to do. Solution: Keep an Eye Out and Keep Things Clean Since it takes several months to establish beneficial bacteria colonies – one reason I recommend using live sand to kick-start the process – that can help to clear the waste from your aquarium without your constant attention.Īnd eventually this cloudiness does resolve itself in most cases. This can result in hazy water all the way to milky white water. This happens a lot with new hobbyists as the new aquarium goes through its initial break-in cycle. If your new aquarium isn’t cloudy right away, but a white or gray cloud starts to rise within a few days or weeks – sometimes even months – you’re likely dealing with a bacterial bloom of some kind. Problem #3: Bacterial Bloom causing cloudy fish tank There are multiple water conditioner options available, which you’ll need as you keep your aquarium anyway, so be sure to invest in high-quality options that come highly recommended by other aquarists. the tank is too alkaline – and this means you’ll need to treat the water. You’ll likely find the pH is too high – i.e. Grab your testing kit to see what it says. ![]() Solution: Testing and Proper Water Changes These can be silicates, phosphates, or heavy metals, to name a few. If washing your gravel thoroughly doesn’t resolve the issue of the cloudy water clearing up, then the next most likely problem of new aquarium cloudy water is likely to be undissolved constituents in said water. Problem #2: Dissolved Constituents causing cloudy fish tank You may want to vacuum the gravel as well, using a gravel vacuum. In most cases, doing absolutely nothing will be the fastest way to clear up the cloudiness. Generally, this kind of issue will clear itself up pretty naturally on its own, unless it’s extremely dirty gravel. Probably the most common cloudy water in fish tank solutions is this one, so let’s hope this is your issue. Solution: Proper Cleansing of the Substrate The gravel is one of the biggest culprits on what makes a fish tank cloudy. When you start a new fish tank environment, there are a lot of issues with introducing any item to the water, unless you do so very carefully. If your aquarium is brand new or you’ve recently changed your substrate, and you’ve asked “why is my fish tank cloudy after one day?”, the chances are that milky cloud in the aquarium water is due to improperly cleaned gravel substrate. Problem #1: Gravel or Substrate Residue – cloudy fish tank Several of these issues are primarily at fault in new aquarium set ups, but some are the cause of cloudy fish tank water in established tanks as well. The Causes of Milky Aquarium Water: White or Grayish Water ![]() Top Tip: While this is all going on, it would be good to test the water with an aquarium test kit to make sure the water balance is established. The easiest solution to fixing this is letting the water filter and the cloud will eventually clear up. With the water imbalanced, bacteria will grow quickly and create a cloud. It’s important that these fish are added slowly to the tank to make sure they are okay. The fish will bring waste, nutrients, and other possible things when they are placed in with water from their home tank. When new fish are added to take, you are getting more than just the fish. This happens when the tank is being cycled or even shortly after the cycled process is complete. It is normal for a new fish tank to have cloudy water. Dissolved constituents – like silicates, heavy metals, phosphates, et cetera.Improperly cleaned new gravel, sand, or other types of substrate. We’ll go in-depth on the causes and solutions below, but if you’re asking why your fish tank water is cloudy, you’ll want to read this quick breakdown of the most common reasons cloudy fish tanks happen: How to Prevent Cloudy Water in Future Why Is My Fish Tank Cloudy? There is no separate installation for Grasshopper. Note: Starting with Rhino 6, Grasshopper is automatically installed when you install Rhino. He has been developing Grasshopper for Robert McNeel & Associates, a US company founded in 1980 which is developer of Rhino software. Grasshopper was created by David Rutten, a computer scientist and architect, who wanted to write a visual scripting interface that would tell Rhino what to do. Architecture faculties are teaching Grasshopper to their students because it is a very nice way to teach them geometry, math and the logic of programming. So Grasshopper is a graphical algorithm editor for generative parametric modeling of architectural form without any knowledge of programming and scripting. Visual programming is really any programming language that allows users to create programs by manipulating program elements graphically rather than by specifying them textually. In addition to Grasshopper being a parametric modeling environment, it also belongs to the paradigm of visual programming. With Grasshopper you are not forced to use the parameters that traditional CAD modelers give to you. Parametric model is a model wherein the parts of a design relate and change in a coordinated way as defined by the various Parameters and Dependencies stated by the user. ![]() It allows users to define logical relationships between multiple design parameters that define a Parametric Model.
